Intragastric Balloon

A non-surgical, outpatient solution for effective weight loss

Non-Surgical Intragastric Balloon Procedure

The intragastric balloon is a non-surgical weight loss procedure that provides a safe, temporary way to help reduce appetite and portion size. It is ideal for patients who want to lose weight without undergoing surgery, or those preparing for more permanent interventions.

Both the Heliosphere® and Orbera® 365 balloons are placed endoscopically, via a thin camera inserted through the mouth into the stomach, under light sedation, and are typically completed as a day-case procedure. No cuts, no stitches, and no hospital stay are required. The balloon remains in the stomach for several months, occupying space and promoting a feeling of fullness with smaller meals.

We offer two balloon options tailored to your individual needs :

Heliosphere® Intragastric Balloon

Lightweight. Air-filled. Comfortable.

The Heliosphere® Balloon represents the latest generation in intragastric balloon technology. Its air-filled design makes it significantly lighter than traditional saline balloons, leading to better overall tolerance and fewer side effects.

Benefits :

Orbera® 365 Intragastric Balloon

The Orbera® 365 is a well-established, saline-filled balloon designed to remain in the stomach for up to 12 months. It creates a sensation of fullness and assists in reducing overall food intake. Orbera is supported by structured lifestyle and dietary programmes for maximum success.

Key Features :

Tolerating the Balloon

Most patients adjust to the intragastric balloon within a few days, although some may experience initial side effects such as nausea, bloating, or abdominal cramping. These symptoms are typically mild and temporary, especially with air-filled balloons like Heliosphere®, which are significantly lighter and better tolerated. Medications to manage nausea or reflux are usually prescribed. The majority of patients are able to return to normal daily activities within 48-72 hours. Our team provides detailed post-placement instructions and support to help you adjust comfortably and confidently.

Diet After Balloon Placement

Following balloon insertion, you’ll follow a phased dietary programme designed to allow your stomach to adapt gradually while promoting effective weight loss. The first few days involve a clear liquid diet, followed by a progressive reintroduction of soft and pureed foods, and eventually a balanced, low-volume solid diet. The key is to eat slowly, chew thoroughly, and stop when full. Our dietitians will work closely with you to create a personalised nutrition plan, helping you make sustainable choices that support both short- and long-term goals.

If you’re looking for a minimally invasive, effective tool to jump-start your weight loss journey, the intragastric balloon may be the right choice for you. With no surgery and minimal downtime, it offers a flexible, proven solution to help you regain control of your health.
